Halloween

The origin behind the holiday

We are all part of nature. It’s cyclical structure is reflected in our physical, emotional and mental planes. We are affected by the movement of celestial bodies and the changes of seasons. We are entering the darkest time of the year leading us to the shortest day on December the 22nd. Our ancestors were deeply connected to their land: it was their source of nourishment and survival, it was their teacher, their God, their parent and a final place to rest. These feelings are still within us echoing through the centuries

With Halloween approaching can we make it more mindful? Perhaps have a family feast? Chat about bygone days? To give thanks to the Earth for another year of life, for the beauty and grace she endures. Would love to hear your suggestions in comments on how to make this Halloween more in tune with nature

Just a little historical note about origins of the Halloween in the UK

“The modern-day Halloween is largely agreed to have originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, held around 1 November, the date that marked the transition from autumn to winter. It was this time of year where people believed the boundary between the worlds of living and dead became blurred, and was when the souls of the dead were said to revisit their homes”.- English Heritage site
